Library Services

Campus-to-Campus Borrowing

If you search the Library's collections and find materials that you want at a library on another another campus, you may visit that campus to borrow them.

You may also request them by clicking the "Request It" link in any item's catalog display page. Requested items can be sent to whichever GTC Campus Library is most convenient for you. You will be contacted via email when the requested materials are available for pick-up.

GTC Library Books by Mail

GTC Library patrons (students/faculty/staff) can request a max. of 2 Library books to be mailed directly to their home. The checkout time is six weeks. Library staff will add a note to the patron's Library account that the books have been mailed.

The borrower is responsible for return postage, or returning the books in person to any GTC Library.

Restrictions:

  • Reserves, Reference items, and DVDs are not are not included in this service and will not be mailed
  • Only books owned by the GTC Library will be mailed.
  • Books cannot be mailed internationally. 

PASCAL Delivers

PASCAL Delivers is a free service allowing current students and employees to search for and request books owned by college and university libraries across South Carolina. Owning libraries will send requested books to any GTC Campus Library.

Requesting Materials  

  • A library card in good standing is required to use this service.
  • Check the Library's collections to ensure that the item that you need is not already available at a GTC Library.
  • If GTC Library's copy is currently checked out, scroll within the item's record to see if another PASCAL Library has a copy, and request accordingly.
  • If no GTC Library has the book, look for it again, choosing "Search PASCAL Delivers" from the search box drop-down.
  • Sign in and click "Request via PASCAL Delivers" to complete the request process.
  • Delivery of requested books usually takes place in 3-5 business days.
  • Maximum of 25 requests per user.

Borrowing Materials

  • A library staff member will contact you when the requested materials arrive.
  • Lending libraries usually set due dates at about 6 weeks. A paper band attached to your book will inform you of the due date.
  • Most lending libraries permit one renewal. Renewal requests must be made prior to an item's due date. For additional information, please contact Anne Scoville at 864-250-8009, or Anne.Scoville@gvltec.edu.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • Lending libraries establish the replacement costs for lost or damaged materials.
  • Students will receive a bill for the lost or damaged materials.
  • Bills must be paid at a GTC library location.

PASCAL Visiting Patron

The PASCAL Visiting Patron program allows current students and employees to borrow books in person at participating libraries. You may borrow up to 3 books for 3 weeks. To use this service:

  • Search the Library's collections for the book, choosing "Search PASCAL Delivers" from the search box drop-down.
  • In the book's record, scroll to "Other PASCAL Libraries", showing you which participating libraries have the book.
  • Present a valid GTC library card along with photo ID at the library that you visit.

We highly recommend that you call ahead to ask about policies and hours before making a long drive to the owning library!

Interlibrary Loan

OCLC Interlibrary Loan allows current students and employees to search for and request books, articles, and some audiovisual materials from other libraries in the US. This service is usually free, however lending libraries will occasionally apply charges to cover photocopying or mailing costs. When you request items through this service, be sure to indicate the maximum that you are willing to pay to borrow these materials.

Requesting Materials

  • A library card in good standing is required to use this service.
  • Check the GTC Library Catalog to ensure that the item that you need is not already available at a GTC Library.
  • To request materials, use either the Book Request or Article Request form.
  • Interlibrary Loan requests may take 7 or more days for delivery. A library staff member will contact you regarding any request that can't be filled.
  • Maximum of 5 requests per week, per user.

Borrowing Materials

  • A library staff member will contact you when your materials arrive.
  • Lending libraries set due dates; the usual loan period is about 3-5 weeks. A paper band will be attached to your book to inform you of the due date. Please do not remove the band!
  • If materials are not picked up within 7 business days, they will be returned to the owning library.
  • Most lending libraries permit one renewal. Contact the library staff for assistance with renewals.
  • Renewal requests must be made 5 days prior to an item's due date.
