Services

Library Cards

GTC students, faculty, and staff must use their GTC ID as their Libraries card.

GTC affiliated Charter High School/Middle College/Early College students are required to complete a GTC Libraries card application with signed parental or guardian consent. Approved cards will be sent to a designated employee at the school for distribution to the student.

Residents of Greenville County must be at least 18 years old and are required to complete a GTC Libraries card application at Barton Library. For proof of residency and age, applicants must provide official identification such as driver's license, government issued ID, birth certificate, legal documents, lease or rental agreement, or utility bill less than 30 days old.

Visitors from PASCAL member institutions are required to provide a valid college ID.

End-of-Term Due Dates

During the last 4 weeks of any semester, due dates on borrowed library materials may be shortened to become the last day of the semester. Students registered for the following semester may request to have the due date extended.


Renewing Items

  1. Visit the GTC Libraries System.
  2. Click Menu in the upper-right corner (if you are on a mobile device, click on the "..."), then click Library Card.
  3. Sign in with your GTC4me email address and password.
  4. Select LOANS on the page that opens.
  5. Click "RENEW" next to each item you'd like to renew. If you would like to renew all your items, click on the box on the left next to each title, then click "RENEW ALL".

Campus-to-Campus Delivery

If you search the Libraries' Collections and find physical materials that you want to check out from the Barton Campus Library, you may request them for delivery by clicking the "Request It" link in any item's catalog display page. Requested items can be sent to whichever GTC Library location is most convenient for you. You will be contacted via email when the requested materials are available for pick-up.

Books by Mail

GTC students, faculty, and staff with a non-Greenville County contiguous United States home address can request a maximum of 5 GTC Libraries' books to be mailed directly to them by completing a Books by Mail Request Form. When approved and processed, a note will be added the patron's account that the books have been mailed.

The checkout time is 4 weeks. Books can be renewed up to 2 times if not requested by another patron. Books can be renewed online or by calling 864-250-8319. 

The borrower is responsible for returning the items to any GTC Libraries location or to the Barton campus Library by mail with patron paid postage.

Restrictions:

  • Course reserve, reference, DVD, and technology collections are not included in this service and will not be mailed
  • Only books owned by GTC Libraries will be mailed.
  • Books cannot be mailed outside the contiguous United States. 

PASCAL Delivers

PASCAL Delivers is a free service allowing current students and employees to search for and request up to 5 books and 3 DVDs owned by college and university libraries across South Carolina. Owning libraries will send requested books to any GTC Libraries location. A library card in good standing is required to use this service.

Borrowing Materials

  • You will receive an email when the requested materials arrive.
  • Items check out for 12 weeks with no renewals.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • The lending library determines the replacement costs for lost or damaged materials.
  • Students will receive a bill for the lost or damaged materials.
  • Bills must be paid at the Greenville Technical College business office.

PASCAL Visiting Patron

The PASCAL Visiting Patron program allows current students and employees to borrow books in person at participating libraries.

To use this service:

  • Search the Libraries' Collections for the book, choosing "Search PASCAL Delivers" from the search box drop-down.
  • In the book's record, scroll to "Other PASCAL Libraries", showing you which participating libraries have the book.
  • Present a valid GTC ID along with photo ID at the library to borrow the book following their circulation policies.

We highly recommend that you call ahead to ask about policies and hours before making a long drive to the owning library!

Interlibrary Loan

OCLC Interlibrary Loan allows current students and employees to search for and request books, articles, and some audiovisual materials from other libraries in the US. This service is usually free, however lending libraries will occasionally apply charges to cover photocopying or mailing costs. When you request items through this service, be sure to indicate the maximum that you are willing to pay to borrow these materials.

Requesting Materials

  • A library card in good standing is required to use this service.
  • Check the GTC Libraries' Collections to ensure that the item that you need is not already available at a GTC Library.
  • To request materials, use either the Book Request or Article Request form.
  • Interlibrary Loan requests may take 7 or more days for delivery. A library staff member will contact you regarding any request that can't be filled.
  • Maximum of 5 requests per week, per user.

Borrowing Materials

  • A library staff member will contact you when your materials arrive.
  • Lending libraries set due dates; the usual loan period is about 3-5 weeks. A paper band will be attached to your book to inform you of the due date. Please do not remove the band!
  • If materials are not picked up within 7 business days, they will be returned to the owning library.
  • Most lending libraries permit one renewal. Contact the library staff for assistance with renewals.
  • Renewal requests must be made 5 days prior to an item's due date.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • Lending libraries establish the replacement costs for lost or damaged materials.
  • Students will receive a bill for the lost or damaged materials.
  • Bills must be paid at a GTC library location.
