OpenAthens at GTC Libraries

A guide to the OpenAthens transition.

OpenAthens Introduction

GTC Libraries moved to the OpenAthens system for access to library resources over the summer.

Changes you will see with OpenAthens:

  • You will log in with your GTC4Me credentials.  No separate number to remember!
  • You will be prompted to log in whether you are on campus or off campus.
  • You may be able to log in to GTC databases directly from other websites where you see an OpenAthens log in option.

Transition to OpenAthens

Complete transition from our old system is still in progress.  What you will notice:

  • Most databases now work with a GTC4Me login.
  • Some links still require the old 003991+ID number login.  We are working to get these databases working with the new system.
  • Old bookmarks and links will still work until we retire the old system this fall.

Troubleshooting

GTC4Me login issues:

Resource access issues:

  • If you have trouble accessing a resource from the Library's pages, please contact the Library or try the institution login from OpenAthens:

Go to https://login.openathens.net/auth

Type Greenville Tech into the "Find Your Institution" box on the right, click the Greenville Tech link, and log in.

Go back to the database you need using the same browser. If you switch browsers, you will need to log in again.

  • If you have trouble accessing a resource from another website, GTC Libraries might not own or subscribe to that resource.  Not every resource with an OpenAthens login option is available to GTC users.  Please contact the Library to see if there are borrowing options.

Resource links:

  • If you need an updated link for a course resource, please email Jan Daniel with as much information as possible (name of resource and current link are especially helpful).

Charter students and faculty:

  • Dually enrolled students should have access to resources using their GTC4Me credentials.
  • We will be working with our affiliated charter high schools to add individual student accounts to the OpenAthens system.
  • Charter faculty: Please contact the Library so we can set up an account for you.
